Mag.Dr.habil. Gerstl Alfred MIR is a specialist on International Relations, especially in Southeast and Northeast Asia. He currently holds a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship at the Department of Asian Studies at Palacký University. His research focuses on China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and how it impacts strategically and economically on Southeast Asia, notably the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines. Other key research interests are the South China Sea dispute and the changing notion of security in Southeast Asia. Alfred taught International Relations at various universities in Austria, Australia, the Czech Republic, Germany and Russia.
