LAB FOR DATA & TECHNOLOGY

ABOUT THE LAB

The Lab for Data and Technology aims to provide technical support for (interdisciplinary) research in Humanities and Social sciences. It is a hybrid lab: a physical lab is located at 2.39 (tř. Svobody 26) and a virtual lab (this website), both offering various services related to:

  • Management of data collection/analysis, research tools, and technology
  • Application of data and technology to practice
  • Open place for lab-based experimentation and quantitative research
MAJOR ACTIVITIES

Consultations

We assist researchers in troubleshooting issues on research methods and technology. We also help researchers to find proper places to store their data.

You can approach us by walk-in or make an appointment.

Regular Events

We provide (in)formal training experience for mass audience through these formats:

• Workshops (per semester; in prep)
• Reading group (biweekly; in prep)
• Course offerings

Experimentation

We provide space for lab-based experiments (joint operation with the Linguistics Lab), including these activities:

• Experimental design (e.g., stimuli creation)
• On-site experiment
• Data analysis
• Communication of research outcomes (via reading group presentation)

Course

Advanced Statistics for Quantitative Research (Tuesday 3:00–4:30pm)

This course provides students with opportunities to (i) learn advanced statistical methods and (ii) apply them to their own research projects. Topics include (linear/logistic) regression, structural equation modelling, mixed-effects modelling, along with data transformation and coding schemes (subject to change). Students are afforded an opportunity to work with R (a famous computational language for statistics and visualisations) under the environment of Rstudio (an integrated development environment) in their projects and data analysis assignments. In addition, students are expected to design their own research project in the form of a research proposal, with emphasis on statistical modelling.
