Abstract

The workshop is aimed at researchers participating in Sinofon’s survey project in East Asia.Drawing on experience from the survey project conducted in Europe in the fall of 2020. As part of the workshop, we will discuss how to work with the survey raw data to gain meaningful insights into public opinion and how to visualize them to make them more appealing for policymakers, diplomats, journalists, and the broad public.

Bio

Matej Šimalčík is the Executive Director of the Central European Institute of Asian Studies (CEIAS). He studied Master in Law at the Masaryk University in Brno (2015). He also studied BA in International Relations at the same university (2015). He continued to study International Relations at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, where he pursued a Master in IR with a focus on East Asia (2017). As part of his Master in IR, he studied at the Tsinghua University in Beijing (2016). He is interested in Chinese foreign and security policy, strategic culture, and relations in the South China Sea area. In 2016–2018 he was a legal counsel at the Slovak branch of Transparency International where he dealt with anti-corruption measures.
